Default cbr1000rr 2013 new-- manual states. use 10-30.

Greetings.....
well I finally bought a brand new 2013 cbr1000rr still in crate last month. Getting close to first oil change 300-600 miles, and the little manual states twice to use 10-30 oil.
I have ridden my 93 cbr600f2 since i bought it new and its manual said I could use either 10-30 or 10-40 (depending on air temp in your riding area)... Reason I state this is, I have used 10-40 Amsoil motorcycle oil for last several years and love it.
So, do any of you 1000 riders use 10-40?? Before Amsoil I used Honda 10-40, but I dont recall seeing Honda 10-30 on shelf........
anyway..........thanks for any input .......

I found a thread on 1000rr.net.

Manual says 10W-30, but GN4 is 10W-40.. Huh?? : Honda CBR 1000RR Motorcycle Forums: 1000RR.net

Go ahead and read it - but basically - the "seemingly" knowledgable guys don't mind running a 40 weight oil. Honda does carry GN4 in 10w-30 though. Your dealer *should* have it.

Nothing wrong with going by the manual - it's not a typo. But there's a lot of guys running T6 (or other 40 weight oils) and doing just fine as well.

The diagram in the 08-14 1000RR service manual (pg 4-21) indicates that either 10W-30 or 10W-40 can be used.

I'm using 10w-40 with no problems. I wouldn't sweat it.
