Cbr idle

Hey new to the site and figured I could get some questions answer. I just bought a 2005 CBR1000RR. I have read some past post and I hope I am right in saying that the light ticking is normal. It doesn't happen all the time it's kinda on and off. Second I have no clue what the idle is supposed to be at mine is idleing at 1,500 rpm when warm is this normal? Should I be adjusting it all the time or what? It's kinda frustrating because I didn't get any service manuals or owners manuals from the dealer since I bought my baby used. But I can understand why they wouldn't order me a new one for 16 bucks I guess. Well I hope ya'll can help me out thanks.

Idle should be 1200 RPM. There's an idle speed adjustment knob on the left side, near the stator cover. Tapping, ticking and pinging noises are common complaints with CBRs. I think Honda's cam chain tensioners are crap, but their engines seem to last so nobody really cares...

The ticking is normal if it is quiet and at low RPM (below 3,500-4,000). If it continues through the rev range (even sometimes) it could indicate something more serious. Mine actually seems to tick less after doing the flapper mod, oddly enough since AFAIK they aren't directly related. Maybe its just a placebo effect.

A good search on this site and you can find the owner's manual and the repair manual.

You shouldn't need to adjust the idle speed once its set properly when warm. If it changes adjustment on its own make sure something isn't loose in the assembly or you may need new (or cleaned) injectors, etc.
