Buying a 06 1000rr later today or tomorrow...

One of my friends is selling his 1000rr, We've already agreed on a price, $2100. But I will have to put some work into it. I'm wondering if it will be worth it in the end or not. It has 18,000 miles, clean title, It has been laid down before. Needs chain and sprocket kit, Needs brake pads, a battery, It's pretty dirty, Needs a fairing kit, I will try to repair the old fairings but not sure how good condition they're in. I feel like For $2100, I can put $400 into it, Have new brake pads, oil change, battery, chain and sprocket kit, Than all I would need is the fairings which are pretty pricey but i'll try to salvage the old fairings fix them repaint and see what I can do with them. So i'd have $2500 into it and have a good running bike.

The battery is dead, But when he hooked up a jumper to it, It started right up and sounded great, It has a M4 full exhaust on it, Motor sounded mechanically great. It had a bit of a whine to it, I think it was the charging system, Alternator, stator? Not too familiar with bikes, I had a F4i for 2 years but I just maintained it and rode it. If you have an opinion please let me hear it good or bad. I wasn't in the market for a bike currently but I've always wanted a 06-07 1000rr and at the price I feel like I couldn't pass it up. So please share your thoughts

This picture is how it currently sits

I don't know - I'd have to be there to actually hear it and see it. The extensions look pretty shoddy, along with the cush drive/hub. The tank cover doesn't look like it's sitting not there correctly - which would worry me about other stuff being wrong underneath - like the tank and/or subframe.

I don't know where you're located, but ~$2k doesn't seem to be too bad for the money as long as good conditioned ones are still selling for at least $5k. I wouldn't plan on it just needing $400 though. Who knows what you'll need. It doesn't look like it's had an easy life. Check the forks, check the radiator on the side it went down on.

I'd question the 3mo old pictures. It has different tires now. The set from 3 mo. ago doesn't look like they're in too bad of shape. I'd wonder why he decided to put new rubber on it, if he was only going to sell it - when it didn't necessarily need it? Why is he selling it and how good of a friend is he?

I try to make sense of everything that I notice about a bike when I'm buying a project bike. If something doesn't make sense, or doesn't look right - I try to figure out what happened and see if it plays into why he's selling it.

Here's a video of how the motor ran real loud up front

I took apart the bike, Found BMC filters in the air box, Removed the old spark plugs they were the wrong plugs, and they were all very very loose, I put the socket on the spark plugs and just unscrewed them with my hand, Didn't even need a ratcher, Also they were the wrong spark plugs they were spark plugs for a cbr 125R. Put new set of plugs for it and motor sounds alot smoother and quieter. I rode it around the block after I bled the clutch, I still got to bleed the front brake, Currently waiting on chain/sprocket kit to come in, Than I need to find some stock brake/clutch levers, brake pedal, and a clutch master cylinder/reservoir

Thanks for looking, Been trying to revive the bike.. Lol

Currently have $2475 in it, including spark plugs, chain/sprocket, oil change/filter, brake pads, everything. I figure after I get a brake pedal and levers, $2510 at most, Than after I get a CMC/reservoir probably $2575 or less.

Wow, it looks a lot cleaner/better.

Glad you're getting it sorted.

Thank you! Chain/Sprocket should be here anyday now from motomummy, It's a 520 kit, Driven sprockets, -1 front, stock rear, 15T, 42T, EK MVXZ 150 Link Gold chain. Got the clean/clear title in hand, Havn't decided whether to try to sell it for some profit or ride it. I have the title open atm, Might see if I can sell it for $3000 or something. Make a quick $500 or so.

Don't know where you're located - but man, where I live, if you could get those extensions a little cleaner, that'd be a $5,500 + bike. Easy.

Well i'm from central Arkansas, You can get a minty 06-07 1000rr never dropped for about $5000-5500. Sometimes you can get a minty one for $4500 or so. I figure in the condition this ones in, Missing fairings/pieces for fairings, Been dropped both sides, It really needs a full fairing kit. I think alittle more cleaning, Paint the extensions, I could probably sell it for $3500. $3000 i'm sure no problem
