bike is Redline faster!! whats wrong?
just changed my oil and filter, bike ran great before but after i changed both oil and filter the bike is hitting redline at 84mph on first gear. when i raced my buddy with a 600 he was ahead of me the enitre time by a bike, i added 3.5 quarts of oil BUT i added some oil additive which is suppose to help promote less friction. Can that be it? i used motorcycle 10-40 superior wet clutch protection oil and bought the filter from discount auto parts? need help the bike is an 07 1K RR with 1900 miles on it this was the first time i changed the oil on it!! please need help quick

RE: bike is Redline faster!! whats wrong?
sounds like a case of 600 having a better rider? just teasing...
I was reading about additives not to long ago alsoand how they don't help that much? But i don't think they would cause the engine to spool up faster? That is controled by timing and everything right?

Sounds like a slipping clutch. What was the max speed in 1st before? If it was 85 then it doesnt make much difference. Have you beaten this 600 before?
If it feels slower and is running slower, your clutch is probably slipping. Get it into a higher gear and put a load on it, say at 50 in 4-5th gear.........can it and see if the RPM jumps with little or no acceleration of the bike. If so back off, go home and fix it before the clutch gets fried.

A no-friction additive kind of defeats the whole purpose of the clutch plates. You are probably slipping the whole way to some extent. I wouldn't use anything like that in the oil. There are plenty of threads here that recommend different types of oil, but I think everyone is in agreement that additives are not good for the clutch. You probably want to flush that out before any serious damage is done.
