Bent shifter on '06 1000RR
Sorry, I misplaced this post in the new member area by mistake:
Just wondering if any of you guys could look up the torque wrench setting for the bolt that holds the gear shifter on my '06 1000RR.
I tipped it over while rearranging stuff in my garage, fought it all the way down, but still scratch just about everything there was that could reach the concrete: left mirror, left turn signal, clutch lever, lower left plastic fairing, deep scratch on left clutch cover, paddock stand spool. Shifter bent about 5mm and I need to remove it to straighten out in a vice. What's the torque for the allen bolt that holds it's pivot point in to the clutch? And what's the torque (if any) on the adjustment nut for the shift rod?
Thanks,
YJ1KRR

Dude... I'm not much help with the torque... but I'm sympathetic to your accident. I dropped my bike going into a gas station minutes after I picked her up at the dealer. Low speed..maybe 5MPH... but DAMAGE to the plastic! Reading your posted gave me some flash backs.

I've still got a stomach ache!
Do you have a service/maintenance manual for the '06? This is where I'd find the torque value for that shifter pivot bolt.
I've got one on order but it'll take two weeks to get here. In the meantime I have to dig my toes in to up-shift.

I once filled up at a gas station and pump my fuel tank without setting my sidestand out. Normally I practice having my sidestand down even thou I'm sitting on the bike while refuelling. Imagine putting the nozzle back into place and jumping off the bike without its sidestand out..I look like a total idiot trying to pull her up to no avail..Paid up at the cashier and quickly zoom off to the next red light before assesing the damage..gee im too embarrassed!! LOL [8D]
