600RR Owner's first ride on a 1000RR
 

I went out for a ride this morning with a buddy, who just bought a 1000RR. Perfect weather, almost no traffic, and the first two hours flew by. After breakfast he suggests I try his bike and I try his. I jump at the chance and after the first five minutes I'm already mentally calculating what I can get for a trade-in on my 600 for a 1000. The biggest bike I had tried previous to today was an MV Agusta F4 1000S. I didnt really get a chance to see what it had because the thought of something happening and being stuck with a $21,995 paperweight made my butthole clench up. Soo..today was the first time I had the opportunity to experience what a liter bike could do. 6 months on my 600 helped with my throttle control and I was mindful of the back tire coming out on turns so I was real careful. Two hours later we come to an intersection, stop, and I've got this huge $hiteating grin on my face. Start to pull out, something happened where I lose my balance, and THUNK! his beautiful baby with 400miles goes over. Because his didn't have his sliders on yet, there's now scratches on the upper/lower fairing, a ding on the tank, and scuffs on the right mirror. I feel, even an hour later, sick to my stomach..like I got drop-kicked in the nuts. To his credit he was very gracious, far more than what my faux pas deserves. I immediately told him that I would give him cash for whatever the repair total is and throw in extra for sliders and install cost. I've got 4,500miles on my 600 and never even had a close call..at speed or puttering around. The one time it happens it has to be my buddy's bike. Anyway, I'm sorry about the rant but I was hoping some of you can empathsize.

Oh yeh. It happens.

I've got 1200 miles on my '06 CBR1000RR. Just before the 600 mile first-service, I tipped it over in my garage. Nine different parts scratched or bent, or broken!

(1) Scratch on mirror
(2) Scratch on turn signal
(3) Scratch on clutch handle
(4) Scratch on bar-end
(5) Scratch on lower faring
(6) Big gouge on Alternator cover (that nice black anodized aluminum really shows up the shiny bare metal underneath!)
(7) Bent shifter (I bent it back with a piece of wood without removing it.)
(8) broken footpeg (peg slider sheered off)
(9) Scratched paddock-stand spool

I only just now got a new peg to replace the one that's broken. I've been running all this time with no peg-scraper.

It eventually happens. Just keep in mind that a motorcycle is a consumable, like a car. 150,000 miles and it's done. Time for another.

That doesn't mean I didn't feel as if someone had key'd my Lamborgini though! (No I don't own one, but if I did, that's how I would feel.)

Oh, and just one other policy I restrict myself with: I never testride something I can't afford to buy.

Dude, sorry you had the misfortune of hurting your friends ride -- I know it's gotta suck big donkey balls[:'(] Not saying you won't but make sure you do good by him -- he's a nicer guy than me because I can count on 2 fingers the number of peeps I've ever let ride my bike.

I'm confused though -- what makes you want a 1kRR now? I mean all the 600 dudes keep telling us liter dudes that we're pigs in the corners and the extra power is wasted on the street[8D]

wow... sorry to hear that. talk about bum luck. sounds like a real cool friend though. and you did right by offering what you did.

i'm very happy with a 600. since i sold my bike i've come close to pickin' up a liter bike but after riding around on one i still like the feel (power-wise) of a 600. i'm patiently waiting on the 07 600RR's. my buddy at the honda dealership is going to a convention next month where they will announce whether or not it will be carried over from last years or a new beast.

that clutch cover is made of magneisum so are the oil pan and other engine covers
that is were they lost a lot of the weight at this year

A week after I got my bike in the winter, temperatures reached 50F so I decided to take the beast for a ride. so I pull the bike out of the shed and I forgot that I didn't had a ramp to go up the 3 steps on the back yard. so me "stupidly" try to control clutch and gas at the same time to bring the bike up the steps with no ramp just because I was anxious turns out, to my bad luck nad "stupidity" the brick underneath the rear tire moved and my bike took a dump!!!!
This cost me:
1 Crack Chrome windshield
2 right peg slider sheered off
3 broken mirror
4 stock blinker cracked middle fearing
5 huge scratches on lower fearing

Still I just picked up the bike and rode it... had to make the days worth it.

But in my opinion I think you did the right thing
Its good to know you care, other people would probably say "sucks to be you"
