hey bud
i have the 08 and just hit 10k on it. i ride haed in the twisties and run around 300-400mi a weekend hence 10k in seven months. i burn no oil. i love the bike and will buy the 2010 next. anyway i broke mine in this way. i rode off the lot and hit it hard up and down the mountain in 100 degree weather. i put an instant 1k in a three day weekend and ran arrows off my tires in leans. if you wanna see some vid here is link. i am in front of cam with polished lip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngCiTbFDcpA if you ride it right you will have no probs with it. i havnt even took in bike for the clutch recall yet

I'm guessing you didn't do a whole lotta searching before posting that up.
That said, I have around 1500 miles and can't tell that it's burned any. Of course it was changed at the 600 mile break-in service (which was more like 800 for me) but with all of the noise about burning oil I check mine before every ride and the level never moves.
I started my break-in by riding pretty tame until the first oil change (kept the RPM's under 10k for the most part). Now I ride however I want.

I just found out recently that the new 08 motor uses only 2 rings on each piston instead of 3. To get things broken in properly you should run it pretty hard and varry speeds as much as possible for the first 300 miles. Change the oil and filter and then run the **** out of it for the next 300 miles. Do the 600 mile service and your good to go.. I'm told that if you baby this motor too much in the first few rides you could end up with an oil burner. I've talked to a bunch of guys in my area and only a few have oil burning issues. The ones with the issue swear they broke it in very easy and never went above 6,000 rpm. The guys with no issue swear they beat the **** out of it from day one.

I never received any HONDA notices about the need to change the clutch ???? My clutch works excellentmundo !!!!

08 1000rr oil consumption
I've had my 08 cbr1000rr since 7/01/08 she only has 2600 miles. last night (3/16/09) I had to add 2 quarts of oil after a 400 mile trip. I have always had to add oil to her since I bought her. It seems like its just getting worse with every mile. Rode to work this morning (about 20 miles) and check the level and she was down almost a quart. Called the dealership and told them my 08 was burning mad oil. They said that they had never heard/saw of the 08 CBR1000rr buring oil. they started pointing the finger at me saying I didnt break her in right and that the rings probably didn't seat right. Thats bull, I broke her using Honda's recomendations. Its sounds like that there is alot of freakin people out here having this problem. I am wondering if anybody had this problem corrected and what they did about it. I never had any of my motorcycles burn this much oil this is not right. I am freakin pissed with Honda right now. I went with Honda because of their reputation. Honda going to lose several customers if they do not correct this problem. This is not normal consumption.
