Default 07 R1 or 07 1000RR?

Hi guys...I am new to the forum. I am trying to decide on which bike I will eventually get so that I can buy the necessary matching Leathers...(These wont be my first bike)....Now I quite like the look of R1 and it was kinda my first choice..but Ive been hearing a lot of problems with the new ones like lag at 5500 rpm and also breaking of rearsets, which doesnt say too much about the build quality of those bikes. But those bikes do have a slipper clutch. I know that hondas are technologically superior and better finish but i do like the look of the R1. My question is should i stick with the Honda 1000RRor should I go with the R1 even with itslittle problems. I know its a Honda forum and that opinions will be biased but i am hoping to get some good info from here.

Also how about fuel efficiency, servicing intervals etc when compared to R1 and any other info to help me decide will be appreciated.

I guess I will be the first one to say this for this thread... There are really few performance differences with the motorcycles. With these bikes, it really comes down to the rider. That being said, I think you should go with your gut feeling. I have an '06 1000rr and I love it! A friend of mine had the'06 R1 (not an 07) and replaced it with a gixxer 1k and is happy with the change.

Here is my general opinion... R1's have always been known to be great in the curves, but are not as forgiving as a CBR. They also have a top-heavy power band while the CBR 1000rr has more thrust in the lower RPM's than the other open class bikes (maily due to the gearing). I know that the 07 R1 is more powerful than the 06 at lower RPM's, but I doubt it will be as strong as the Honda until after 10,000 RPM's or so. I also have heard that the R1's are more comfortable for taller riders (6' or taller). I am 5'9" and I am very comfortable on my Honda. Fit and finish on the Honda will be slightly better than other bikes (for example, compare the welds)

So, if you are a tall riders who likes to hit a lot of curves at high speeds and RPM's, maybe you should look at the R1. If you are a daily commuter or sunday rider who likes to have a little more fun at lower RPMs and ride more on the streets, I would suggest the CBR. Who am I kidding, I would suggest the CBR for both cases! It is an awesome bike!

To surmise- go with the bike you like.

I would go with the CBR the R1 is a great bike but its not as comfortable as the cbr. And as for looks the cbr just looks better to me. I had planned on getting an r1 to match my r6 but when it was side by side next to a cbr1k the honda just looked better. As far as build quality yamaha makes good stuff so dont fret. And their cutomer service is the best, better than honda, suzuki, or kawasaki. The lag issue is small and more of a computer glitch or something, I'm sure they will have that fixed next time around. The lag is somewhat noticeable but not to a severe degree. I also thought of the slipper clutch as a plus to have. But its a plus to have on the track. You really don't need it for the street. And besides the cbr1k is so smooth with the gearing and clutch you don't need it on the cbr. Look at all the reviews, in most of themboth are kick *** bikes but the honda always finished before the new R1. I am not biased towards any bike company thats just whatever they are not paying me so why should I just stick with one brand. I have yamahas, hondas and suzukis and will be adding kawasakis to my stable. Go with what you like and want. If its a toss up I would go with a cbr.

Thanks for the great advice Onarom and Orangebutter...i think I will stick with CBR. I trusta Honda a bit more than a yamaha. And yeah..its will be mostly a daily street rider plus a few track days thrown in.... The reason I like the look of Yamaha is because of the twin cylindrical headlights...and they look great when you thrown in a couple on BMW style angel lights

I love the look of the headlights on the R1. None-the-less, I think you are making the right choice. Post some photos when you get your new bike!

Me too. the cat eyes on the R1 really set it off. Wonder what a cbr1k would look like with some cool lookin cat eyes.

I've only heard good things about Yammis in terms of reliablilty. I would say that the R1 is on par with the CBR in that regard.
