First off, you bought your bike for the wrong reason. Anyone buying a bike purely to keep up with someone will be road pizza in no time. Or your brother will be road pizza trying to play. Ok the party pooper has spoken now for the fun stuff.
If you were talking keep up at eyeball flattening speeds than your 07 will do that but keep in mind both bikes have different power curves. You may want to mess with the pipes and add apower commander. As well as learning to ride at a track day event.
If you are talking up to 100mph than why keep up. Sprocket upgradeswill keep you in front with some track day learning.
If you have never ridden anything but a 500 or 600 and your brother has been on his R1 for years don't try to keep up. You'll die a horrible death. Learn how the bike handles and feels first and slowly get your comfort zone up. Never ride your bike outside of that comfort zone just to keep up with your brother though. The only thingriding out of your comfort zone will bring you is death, debilitation, carnage, or at the very least it will have you never living it down when your brother finds out you need a change of your shorts.
