04 1000rr startup question?
I just bought my 2004 1000rr this year. I bought it from a dealership, and he told me when you start it up, have your gear on, and just go, don't let it sit and get up to temp, or else it will foul out the plugs. Is this true? I couldn't find anything about that in the owners manual or the web. Every other bike I have had I always would let it warm up a little bit while I put my gear on before I took off, but then again, my last bike was a carburated r1, this is my first FI bike. I just wanted to check how much truth there was to this? Thanks.

RE: 04 1000rr startup question?
I know I'm NOT going to take off like that, myself. If it's cool, like 55 degrees, and my bike's been sitting for a week, it'll rev to 2500 rpm when I start it and stay there for a minute or two. I'm not going to try to put it in gear and take off if it's "idling" at 2000+ rpm!

Sometimes I find it amazing that dealership people can even identify a motorcycle. Let it idle for 4 hours if you want. It won't foul the plugs unless something else is wrong with the bike. Personally I put on most of my gear, crank her up, helmet and gloves, and then playtime

A friend mine who knows bikes like a lot of people on the forum do and who worked at a Honda dealer last season said they would get a lot of fouled plugs on their used bikes because the sales dept would start a bike, rev the hell out if it then shut it off right after.
