+1 on Kaska. SC24 was released in -89 in THE WORLD, but US market didn't get it until -90, maybe because Honda USA had so many SC21 still in stock. The last year of CBR 1000 F one could get, atleast in Sweden, was -00. In USA, it was discontinued in -96, to leave room (probably?) for the Super Blackbird, wich was introduced in -97. Easiest way to tell if it's a 2:nd or 3:rd gen, is to see where the front turn indicators are placed. On 2:nd gen, it's in level with the headlight, on 3:rd gen it's placed lower.
None SC24 was labelled as "Hurricane" by Honda, this is a name from the 1:st gen CBR 1000F (SC21), which we still like to use, I guess it gives us some connection with all those Fireblades, Blackbirds, Firestorms out there.

I was told by someone (maybe from this forum) that the name Hurricane was discontinued by Honda as Hurricanes are associated with death in real lifeand Honda didnt want that attached to their brand of bikes. Could be the same for the old Cyclones too!

I could understand it if they'd called it a "Kamikaze" - BAD connotations.....and that just means a "Divine Wind".....?
But a hurricane, a cyclone and a typhoon are all the same storm, they just appear in different places, and some rotate the other way........I think the men from the East are just a bit too sensitive IMHO. Maybe we should call the storms something else ? There's a thought.........he he
Nice new siggy, Gill, but I'd suggest "Play naked, but wear your protective gear" - read what you like into it.......
My Bike will always be a Hurricane, whatever anyone else wants to call them is fine,,,,,

Hi guys,

Here in Mexico Honda placed an assemblyplant here in Guadalajara back in the 80's, out of that plant the first CBR's came out, not sure if they produced for some other countries, they sold the CBR 1000F in Mexico during 1988 and 1989, for some reason they discontinued selling the 1000 engine and keep on selling onlythe 600F until 1996. from there we have always had only the RR versions. In Mexico these bikes were never called or had the logos of the Hurricane, I tought that this was anUS thing only. guess not, since folks from everywere know them by that name. another thing I noticed is that you guys had the license plate holder having the directional lights also installed here, in Mexico we did not have that, the main rear light had the turn signals integrated in the unit, so we had a central red light and yellow side lights, but no turn signals attached to license plates..funny.

Regards,
Luis

Hey Luis !
That would be a nice mod for those of us who have separate indicator lights - do you have any pictures of it ?
Thanks

Tomorrow I will take some photos of the rear end for you to take a look at it, but I will need some guidance as far as putting up the photos here...the frigging computer thing just does not run quite well on me.

Cheers and V's,
Luis

To post pics, don't use the fast reply box below- rather click on the "post reply" button. Then, below the reply box that pops up, click on "click here to upload", navigate to the pic you want to post using the "browse" button, and click OK. If you want to embed the pic in your post, check that box, click OK again, and you're done.

Thanks Paco, let me give it a try, I found a pic of the loved one when I recently bought it in 2004, in the pic you will also see the new set of tyres that I got for her, they are Pirelli's, do you have a comment with them the thing is becuause of the old tyre size, this was the only brand name that I could see. In the pic you will see also that I do not have the turn direction lights in the license plate, they are integrated in the rear light instead, and all the bikes sold in Mexico are the same way, I have not seen one with the turn signal lights in a different position.
