Wierd stutter/stall at WOT above 7K rpm
#31
Well I finally got around to working on the bike, cleaned the air filter last night. Well on my way to work today I snatched it all the way up to 8.5K and no stuter or stall. Thanks All for the help/tips, turned out to be the dang air filter. Still doing an oil change asap LOL.
Edit: well false hope thought it was gone, but its back grmble, grumble, grumble...

Well, I havent been on the thread for a while, but the bilke ended up still having the stutter problem at WOT over 7k, so I got around to doing the oil change, and its still there. It must be somthing with fuel, maybe the vaccum line or pet ****, or could be my carbs need synced better. Not sure yet, but will update when I find the problem.

Well I checked all the rubbers on the intake/airbox. And found that the intake side hoses were loose(forgot I was messing with them). Well I tightened them down and took her for a spin, and still the same. I am gonna keep going till I find it. I will check back later. Thanks again
Edit: I was thinking, does anyone think it could be the petcock going bad, maybe not allowing enough fuel to the bike at WOT over 7k?

Well there is a flow, otherwise my bike wouldnt run(been driving to work just about everyday), but I was wondering if it is just starting to go bad and not flowing properly when at WOT, and starving my bike when above 7k. Today, I am gonna pull my carbs and re bench-sync them. Hopefully I find the culpret.
Edit: well I re-bench synced the carbs checked all the boots and still the same dang thing!!! Next will be the plugs and if not that then im not sure, maybe the coils? wires? petcock? its driving me crazy! atleast I can still drive it to work, i am just wondering why it stalls for a second when at WOT over 7K then as soon as it drops below 7K I have power till then. Now at anything less then WOT it goes all the way up no problem.

I think there is a one liner in the manual from memory saying that you can use a timing light to check the timing, quickly followed by a disclaimer that the timing appears to be out there's bugger all you can do about it. Advance and retard are governed by the ECU.
The other problem in trying to use a timing light is that if the screw cover is seized up, like most are, you're going to have to remove the complete cover over the pickups and then running her means you'll be pissing oil all over the place so it's not really going to be of that much use.
Just one thought, have you done a compression test? That could indicate if there's a problem inside one or indeed all of the barrels that you may not have come across to date. Low or mismatched compression readings can cause all kinds of random symptoms.
