Default Why buy an exhaust when you can make it?

I didn't win the Vance&Hines SSR2 exhaust that I was bidding on ebay. So after being aggravated at the guy who never bid on it and then bids in the last minute... I decide I'll make my own exhaust. Since the ninja is currently not running. I swiped the devilbikes canister off of it until I get it running again (I'll find another pipe for the ninja later.). The canister has a 2 1/8 inch inside diameter, which is bigger than the stock pipe for the 'cane anyways. So I just went down to the exhaust shop and bent me some 2inch pipe and sweeled the end too slip-in the can. Sounds pretty good. Just like any other newer CBR-litre class with an aftermarket exhaust. While I was at it I bobbed off the rear fender. I'm still working on my license plate bracket and flush-mount signals(turn signals are in the side pods of the tail lamp for now.). Here's some pics. Let me know what you th

Yeah. I set it up just like all the slip-ons you buy. I just used 2inch pipe and cut out a cap for it and welded it all together. Oh! When you use 2inch automotive exhaust pipe you can also use the factory exhaust gaskets. An added bonus. I went on a 250mile round trip ride yesterday with the pipe on and I got 44.5mpg versus the 40mpg I usually get. Granted it was alot of highspeed interstate riding, but I'm surprized with my gas milage anyways since I've went (-2) on the front sprocket, plus I'm always into the gas. I'd like to find an oval canister sometime for the bike. I think it'd look better with an oval. We'll see when that day comes.

Dude thats the secret to getting a winning bid on Ebay. There are websites like AuctionSniper that will hold off placing a bid for you until the last 5 or 10 seconds. This way you don't get involved in a bidding war.

Hey Chuck, ur ride is looking good, the less hanging off it the better i reckon, though i gotta ask, what happened to the grab rail? and with the turns in with the tail lamp do you feel confident that drivers can see them ok?

My personal opinion: it looks good, but I would bring the pipe closer to the swingarm so that it doesn't extend beyound the passenger footrest when it's down.

It’s a good-looking system. I've recently ordered the same as slipon's to the Blackbird -97. Unfortunately, I had to pay a lot for mine :-(. You may consider moving the silencer closer to the frame for even better appearance.

I removed the grab rail and I'm going to add some plastic to the seat to fill in the gaps where it was when I re-upholster the seat with some "carbon fiber" print leather that I picked up at work. As for the turn signals... No I don't feel safe with them in the side pods. They're not bright at all. On my ride I made sure I was in the middle of the pack. I'm waiting on my flush mounts to come in the mail. And I was planning on moving the pipe in closer to the swing arm. I just have to take the bracket off and bend it in. If I look at my before and after pics, the stock can sticks out the same amount. It just an illusion, that makes it look like it sticks out so far. If I knew for sure I won't ever have a passenger on my bike I'd like to convert it over to a high-mount system, and make a rear seat cowl. The bike will look even better after I put my 5.5inch rim with a 180/55 on it. Another Ebay special. And yes I know "TRIPS"... I Ebay alot. I wasn't mad really... It gave me a the ambition to make another exhaust. Any exhaust system is expensive. I saved alot of money doing this one... $519 for the full-system that you buy on mine. I got by with $60 for everything that I used. The can I used has alot of road rash[:'(](alot of JB Weld) I'll get antoher one some time. Thanks for the input guys. I'll bring the pipe in alittle, install my flush mounts, put my plate bracket on, and my wider tire, and I'll post some more pics!
