Hi, first time posting. Found a '93 CBR1000F, less than 3500 miles on it, really clean. Seller is asking too much, just wondering what people think a resonable cash offer would be? NADA is showing in excellent condition price of $3600. Any idea? thanks.

I paid $5k for mine with 12k miles, 7 years ago. It was like new condition. I have no regrets. There are some deals out there but availability in your area has to be considered also. A '93 with less than 3,500 mi, WOW! Just like buying a new bike. If the bike has that low of miles, the guy is not a rider. I doubt that it has not seen more than 5K on the tach. The bike is still virgin.

New: (ball park)
Yamaha FJR 1300 -> $15,000
Kawasaki Concours 14 -> $15,000
BMW R 1200 R -> $17,000
BMW K 1300 GT -> $19,000
Triumph Sprint ST -> $13,000
Honda ST1300 -> $16,000

How much is he asking? What if you show him the book price and go from there?

Welcome to the forum!

I'd agree with TimBucTwo and start at the book price. The '93 is not a collector year but it is a super low mile example you are looking at. As for haggling points, if the tires are more than 4 years old, toss 'em, a new set of Micheilins will run you $350. A full service at the shop, all fluid changes and safety checks, couple hundred if he has no records.
Good Luck!

Well, I got him down to $3900. Not sure if that's worth it, I guess I am hung up on a possible re-sale years later. I know I'll lose money, but hopefully not too much. He just put new tires on it and oil change, oil/air filters changed as well.

New tires don't mean anything to me, about price. I would have to change the oil and filters anyway, Don't understand why people say that???

If I bought this 'Cane the first thing I would do is change all the fluids before I rode it again.

With all the supposed extras aside, is $3900 a good price?? I just don't want to regret paying $300 over NADA "excellent" price later (buyers remorse)

Practically a new bike for little money. You'd lose a lot more if you bought a new 2010 bike and tried selling it on in a few years. If it was me i'd take the hand off the seller for that bike. Can't see any regrets buying that....

Actually 17years @ 12 months ea. = 204 months total.
3,500 mi / 204 months = 17 miles per month.

To answer the question, You could find a cheaper bike that you need to put money into. The joy of not having work on it is worth at least $300 to me. If I were in your situation I would buy it at that price if he refuses to meet you at book price. Book price is a ball park figure that is suggested. Harleys have always sold way above any reasonable book price.

If you don't buy it soon, Sprock may jump on it for his collection.
