What would Happen If?

Too tight: there will be a squealing sound - will wear out parts quickly
Too loose - rattle from the shaft from backlash in the gears, and vibration through the engine, also through the bars and footpegs.
Quick easy job to do, some say do it with motor running, others with it off.
I'd do it with the engine running - easier to set.

I did mine a couple of days ago with engine off. Could not determine stop point turning CCW so I turned it 1 increment at a time CCW, each time starting engine and listening for squealing sound. Never heard any squealing. Settled on two clicks left, or CCW, from start. Seemed to reduce vibration in handlebars.
I enjoy tinkering with the Bike and will do again in the next few weeks. The service manual covers this adjustment but this site provided more detailed information and real world feedback.
Thanks to all.
