Question Trivia: one key too many?

Just curious: my recently-bought '89 F has three keys (ignition, fuel cap, saddle). Is this normal? It seems like at least one key too many. The keys look fairly evenly worn so it doesn't seem like a lock has been changed.

I think it has two keys too many. My 95 uses the same key for all three locks. Maybe a previous owner lost his keys and replaced the locks separately instead of buying a full lock set.

Yep, I'd say 2 keys too many, also.
I have a '95, too... with one key for all.

One key is standard - my 91 has 3 keys because it was stolen at one point and when recovered the ignition and petrol locks were damaged.

The previous owner didnt want to claim on his insurance (Who would have repalced all the locks) so replaced them himself, and it was cheaper to just do the 2 as mismatched units

OK, thanks for the replies, fellas: I guess there have been a couple of lock changes over the years. It's a pain having the keys on a bunch flapping around in the breeze, and I haven't figured out where I could hide the other two keys on the bike when they're not needed.

Put them on another ring and keep them in your jacket, as I do for the disc and security chain. Sves the flapping about and scratching the paint. Would be ashame to loose them or scratch the paint ah.

Main key - ignition, fuel cap and saddle
second - extra helmet locks
third - side bags
forth - top bag

A decent locksmith should be able to make all the locks work on one key - the small brass inserts have to be recut. You'll have to take all three off and take them in. Probably best to get them all to run the same as the ignition.
Other option is to buy a full set on e-bay - they often come up and not expensive ........
