I have just got myself a 2 piece Hien Gerric set of leathers in black, up till now my leathers have always been used and abused but this set I am going to look after
What do you use to keep yours in good nic?
I have heard all sorts of old wives tales and recipes but want something "off the shelf" have you got any ideas or better still recommendations guys?

 

First where have you BEEN ? Some of us were starting to worry about you....

I use some local stuff made from beeswax, and various sorts of oil -RENAPUR it's like a paste you rub in and is waterproof too.Keeps the leather nice and soft.
Dubbin works fine too, but there are some great products out there.
I guess everyone has his own favourite. Saddle soap ?

Life has been a bit hectic lately,holidays, kids going back to school that sort of stuff. I was going over to Maine to do a bit of carpet bombing but couldn't find the place, every one I spoke to up there tried to get me to buy their sister (who it turned out was usually their wife too)
But back to the leathers, doesn't dubbin make them all greasy? I can remember using it on my football boots back in the good old days
I was wondering about saddle soap,apparently there are two types, one has lanolin in it the other has glycerine,just be nice to hear if others have tried them out.

My leathers are not new, good old fleebay. Just happened the ones I liked the last owner had them a year (cost £450 new) then give up biking. Turns out he is the same size exactly as me!!

I have tried many products but now I use Mineral Oil for waterproofing and preserving leather. This stuff works the best for hiking boots and golf shoes. I rub it into my riding leathers also. If you decide to use mineral oil, look for it in your local pharmacy in the laxative section. Baby oil is mineral oil that is scented whereas in the laxative form it is 99.9% pure.

I use to spray WD-40 (water displacement-formula #40) in the seams of my waterproof golf shoes when they leaked, where the leather meets the sole, but the mineral oil works best without the smell.

I rub it on guns that I don’t plan to use for a while. I will darken leather as the leather sucks it up. My son now uses it on all his hiking and hunting boots. When you are done rubbing it into the riding gear you will have soft hands and can rub your oily hands all over your face and then drink for the bottle. LOL
