Default Traffic Lights

I don’t know about the rest of you but my cane doesn’t trip the sensor on the traffic lights it my area. I find it real annoying to have to sit for 5-10 minutes waiting for a car to pull up behind me to trigger the light change. I have tried putting a magnet on the bottom of my bike but that seems to have not helped anything. The way I understand those sensors work is that when metal from the front bumper or engine block of a car goes over the circle in the road it changes the inductive field created by the circle. What else can I try besides a magnet? I have been with two other guys before a 1000 and 600 and the three of use next to each other couldn’t trip the light. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Report it to your roads authority. They are required to fix intersection that dont work.'

There are 2 types of loops. One in a loop and one in a figure 8. So if you are riding in the middle of the lane and it doesnt work try riding on the edge of the lane.

Also try using rare earth magnets.

I found a solution. Eat everything in sight and drink lots of beer. The added weight around your waist will trigger the sensor.

It works for me :-)

Hey Sawnee, Your sig is growing.
TMAX, I had the same problem with a light in my route to work. First try driving and stoping directly over the sensor wire (if you can see the cut line), if that doesn't work try pushing the center stand down so there is more metal closer to the ground. the second worked for me. I would agree with Trips on this one though. If 3 of you together couldn't trip it its not set sensitive enough.

When I come across this, I'll wait no more than 2 cycles of the light. If it doesn't change and I don't see any cars coming up behind me to help trip the light, I treat it as a malfunctioning light. Look both ways, and when it's clear I go.

I must be lucky in South Australia. I haven't had the problem for many years. What I used to do was get off the bike & push the button for cyclists or for the pedestrians. That would get some looks but it worked.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I never thought of putting my side stand down, I will try that next time. I normally just run the red light after a few minutes, I know that sometime I am going to do that and a cop will see me and I will get a ticket.
