Default threaded holes in grab rail. What are they?

On my CBR, I have the stock grab rail with the flip out clips to strap bungees and what have to it. However, looking from the back of the bike, I see two holes (one on each side) on the back sides that are threaded. Does anyone know of what these are for? Do they make an aftermarket back rest for a passenger that fits this? My wife likes riding but I was wondering if they make one that is detachable from this. I know corbin use to make the gunfighter lady with the back rest that folded down, but does any know if theres anything else out there?

I dont know if this will help but I have the gear rack on the back of mine and seeing my wife loves being on the back I made a makeshift back rest to see if it would benifit her, at the moment its only a work in progress but is doing the job just fine. I will finding a person in the chair assembly industry and asking if they could make one so you can just bolt it on.

Thats a good idea. Just a few questions if you don't mind. How did you get the rack to fasten to the bike and grab rail? Does it fasten to the back side of the grab rail? I have been designing a back rest that fastens to the rail using quick disconnects. On paper it looks and should function perfectly with the fact that it will be quick disconnect. As soon as I figure out what materials to use to build it, I will build it and show up some pics.

Thanks for your help.

I have the same carry rack with my bike and it's connected by L shaped brackets that fit under the 4 bolts that hold the grab rail on. The tops of the 4 tabs on the grap rail were shaved down so the original bolts were long enough to get purchase... to me, it's a really bad design because the seat is *really* difficult to fit or remove.

I've been looking at the grab rail, trying to decide if it is substantial enough to be drilled and tapped or have tabs welded on the outside to mount the rack/backrest to... quick release is also important to me...

I've scratched the decals taking it on and off which is really really really annoying!
