Thanks Naga!
Today I completed my CCT replacement, with help from Naga's comprehensive how-to.
On first start-up, with full choke, the revs didn't rise very high so had to help it along with a little throttle. Also idle speed when warm was less than 1,000 rpm so turned up the idle screw a bit. Anyone tell me why?
The old CCT had no movement in it at all. After draining the oil it had a bit of movement but not as much as the new (second-hand) one.
Never done anything like this before; have done oil changes, replaced water pump, headstock bearings etc but never been inside the engine, never done the timing, never done valve clearances. So if I can do it, anyone can.
Ran the bike (1990 F-L) round the block a few times, definitely less noisy, don't seem to be any leaks... yet! Looks like I even got the timing right!
Difficulties encountered:
Unhooking and re-hooking the throttle cables. There's probably a secret to this but I got there in the end.
I snapped three bolts during the operation. Torque wrench not too accurate right at the bottom end of the scale so resorted to using 'feel'.
Couldn't find a socket that was thin enough to remove two of the bolts holding the top camchain guide. These were the bolts next to the camshaft holders - which I filed down a little so the socket would fit!
The camshaft holder that should have been marked 'R' (exhaust right) was actually marked 'IN R' but there was a line scvored through the 'IN'!
Also couldn't quite remember how to re-position the rubber engine insulator but it's in there somehow and the tank still fits!
I'm hoping everything will still be working after a few miles...

Hey Howard!
Did you get sick of that golden rocket I seem to remember you buying a year or so back?
Is this another CBR to replace it?
Sorry if I've kissed out on news.
If you invest in a 3/8 drive socket set you won't need to go filing things. Once you have one you'll wonder what you ever did without it.
