Test Ride.......Not Bad At All

1 Attachment(s)
Inmates,

Took her out for a test ride down a road near home last sunday, i am suprised you could not see the smile on my face from where you live.

The one thing that left me wondering is how hard I had to go in the revs between each gear change, between 5000 & 6000Rpm's. And it felt like the bike was calling me chicken saying is that all YOU got.

Cant' wait to get her road registered and in full time use (early Jan 2010)

Just how hard can you push these girls through the gears?

All the very best to you all, and your families for the holiday/christmas season.

Enjoy yourselves and be safe

Aussie Johnno

Did you guys notice that we never hear a blown engine story? Sometimes a "won't start" or some electrical/battery glitch, but no "threw a rod" or "broke a valve" stories.

They are built well or they would not be around this long. Honda dropped the ball on the VFR500. It had a week oil pump and if the rider rode down in the revs, it would spin the rod bearings. Nice little bike other than that but not many around anymore due to the pump.

As far as high rev-ing these bikes, it will take it but my gears don't like meshing up there so I only shift up there now and then. If I remember correctly, I am not alone with this happening.

5000-6000 RPM is where the power only starts to come in - push her to at least 8500 RPM to get all the horsepower and torque that she has.
Top speed, dunno I've had mine to 265KPH (12 K's in 4 minutes) - the road goes by at a helluva rate, believe me......... and she had a bit left, but you need to use all the revs to get her there. Bike's got more balls than I do, for sure........................:)

New camera better pics.

Johnno, that's really a nice looking example! I rev mine regularly to 8 or 9K and she loves it. Pulls well from 4K if I can't be bothered to knock it down to overtake but somtemes I drop three gears, just for sh!ts and giggles, and nail the throttle wide. Really takes off around 7K..and I mean REALLY!! Puts a huge grin on my face and I do occasionally let out a loud wooohooo..just can't help it, it's magic therapy. Poor ba5tards behind me must bleed from the ears 'cos the V&H really lets loose at full bore :D:D. I f'n love it!!

Steve-o 12-08-2009 06:36 PM

Nice work Johnny! And Thanks for the well wishes. I guess I am more conservative because all I can advise you is ride within your limits so you are around to tell us more great stories about your girl. She looks beautiful, by the way.

Cheers,

Nice Johnno............very nice

Looks like everyones on the same page 8k up is where
"holy chit factor" kicks in and depending on how you
run your gearing config'...........you can really heat
things up a good bit more too......oh yeah !

JHouse 12-08-2009 07:46 PM

Steve-o

Isn't Andover where the show film of that huge tornado on all the weather documentaries? Were you around those parts? Seems like it was the big one.

I grew up in KC. Was in the 59 tornado that hit the Ruskin Heights Shopping Center. They used my dad's station wagon as an ambulance. I remember. None of our houses had basements.

Steve-o 12-08-2009 08:30 PM

JHouse,

Yes, Andover was the place. I was literally a couple of miles (in Wichita) away bowling and watching it on TV. It was a really bad one for sure. I did not live there at the time though. What a memory about your Dad's car in KC. Thanks for the shout out.

For sure. I've pushed mine to 150MPH and I was only pulling about 9k. She wanted more and I wussed out. I LOVE that roar on a quick throttle opening up to on her from a stop; a head turner for sure. Makes a sweet sound starting about 6k :D

I like to downshift from fairly high revs too when I'm coming up to my road in the arvo. There's nobody else around and I get awesome crackling on the over run....can't see myself ever getting over it either :D:D.

Sprock 12-09-2009 06:15 PM

Dave .........explain "arvo" please mate !...........om clueless ..........need the low down

Sorry Sprock, I've been over here since '88 so I've picked up the slang by now. 'Arvo' is just an abbreviation for afternoon. e.g. "Went for a ride yesterday arvo, it was the dog's bollocks!"

Hope that clears things up for you mate :D:D.

Lol... I love it. I worked with some Aussies and Tasmanian Firefighters (still Aussies ?) on a wildland fire in Washington State. Kinda like a foreign exchange student program for firefighters. I worked with some Aussies for about a month, an experience I will NEVER forget.

These guys were the BEST. I LOVED IT!!!...

Maybe a question for the Aussies... Is Alpaca (sp?) big there? This one guy guy LOVED is Alpaca Coat. He was completely warm and we were shivering lol.

Anyhoo.... my 2 favorite sayings I picked up from him, and still use....

1. "Duck Nuts" - I was told it ment "cool", "awesome", ect

2. "Pissing In Your Pocket" - Basically, pulling your chain, f-ing with ya....

I love it! :D
