Starting/Tick over troubles.

Starting/Tick over troubles.
Hi there guys , this little problem has reared its ugly head during the cold weather we're having.
Basically if I set the tick over speed where she will start from cold on the choke , by the time she warms up she's ticking over at about 1800 RPM , not too good riding through town
If I adjust the tick over when she's hot to about 1100-1200 RPM , she won't start from cold on the choke
I've been running carb cleaner through her for a few weeks , could dirty carbs be the problem?
Please bear in mind that my knowledge of carbs is non-existent , so explanations will have to be at Kindergarten level
Cheers guys
P.S. Forgot to mention , when idle is adjusted so she will start from cold , she starts O.K. and runs for a short while , then she 'bogs down' and loses RPM and will stall unless I give her some throttle.

Thanks for the pointers guys , will investigate the choke cable when I get the chance . Tired of fiddling about with the tick over speed , it stalled today , I think because the tick over was too slow so had to mess about with it by the roadside , not cool
I always use full choke to start her up Steve , and she starts well if the tick over is set right , but as I said she'll run for 30-40 seconds , then I need to play with the throttle to keep her from stalling

I had a similar problem a few months ago. i lubed the clutch cable good, and lifted the tank and sprayed the choke slide real good and everything is back to normal. I call it a slide, but dont know what the actual name of it is. If you lift the tank and move the choke cable back and forth, you will see it.

Probably a good idea for me....mine still works well, but the lever is starting to get a little tight.
Don't wanna snap that 20yr old plastic lever... lol...

Slide makes perfect sense and is what I call it, too. However, I think honda calls it a "starter lever" (maybe so it's not confused with the other "slide" in a carb)
However, when I think "starter lever", I think "kick starter"....lol..
