Starting issues, again!

It did. And I drove her to work but then couldn't get her home...
It was exciting because it was my first time riding her, ever!
But disappointing on so many levels. I don't think the battery is staying charged, I think that there are many vacuum leaks in the carbs, I really feel as if she is running to rich or lean but jets are so damn expensive I don't want to go buy a ton to get it all figured out.. . and she won't stay running long enough or well enough for me to clearly be able to look at the plugs to tell and I'm not really even 100% sure that all the coils and wires are good so I need to test them.
Its just hard to find a starting point when there is so much wrong....

Two issues apparent to me
No charge of the battery - bad stator - bad RR or bad batt
Carbs
Pod filters always cause poor running by way of too rich a mixture
and uneven across the - outer 2 cylinders get two much cool air
inside two get warm restricted air
I'd make extensions and move the pods further out from the carb
so there's a "draw" on them you need a slight vacuum / vortex on
the air intake side of the carb
Clip needles you added further exacerbate the rich running scenario
if used with stock jets the cone shape at the top of those clip style
needles are not the same as the oem ones - that's a problem
They are less come shaped and essentially just dump fuel in when
the throttle opens - making the motor feel like it's bogging down
and struggling to gain power from over fueling
I'd put the stock needles back on with a single shim and go from there
Just my casual observations man.

Yeah I know the pod filters are causing trouble... Read a post. You need equal amounts of stable air to the cc of the cylinder before entering the carbs. Long story short... Put 4" tubes between the carbs and the filters.
I am running clip needles but larger jets. I think I need to lower my needle to lean it out and go down in pilot jet since I jumped way up in those as well, or maybe just go back to stock.
And your right it does feel like its bogging down when I give it throttle.
Your a smart guy! Thanks for the help

Yeah R/R would be my bet too and hopefully the battery has not already been boiled
up too much. I had this happen to my 90 once
Man throw the stock jets and needles back in so you can get riding the damned bike
for now before the season is half over !
I'm not smart - just know what a frustrating pain in the rear it is as these bikes carbs
are real finicky when you go dicking around with any jets or needles other than the
stockers

Regulator / Rectifier ( notorious for frying up and giving out ) when they do they
keep charging your battery boiling off the electrolyte or sometimes just do nothing
or sometimes wipe out a field coil on the stator.
My 90 went bad I changed the R/R and the Batt - problem was solved
It had boiled off half the electrolyte on a new wet style battery and the old R/R
was boiling hot to the touch after the bike ran a few mins
left side of frame midway under the seat
