Speedometer reading on the fritz.

Speedometer reading on the fritz.
I did a search for my 1996 CBR 1000F and the speedometer cable.
For a while, above 80 mph or so, the speedo needle would fluctuate about 10 mph. Then in the past week, it really went haywire. At 60mph/4000rpm I only read 30mph and it wobbles. Under 30mph I get no reading at all on the speedo.
I suspect that the nut on the C/S Sprocket must be worn.
I need a new chain and sprockets anyhow. I have 43,500 miles on my bike now and this is the first time my speedo has acted up. Compared to the ZX9R I had before, I had to get a new cable every 10,000 miles or so so the CBR is so much better. I last had a new chain and sprockets at 17,000 miles, I am overdue.

RE: Speedometer reading on the fritz.
I am wondering about doing it but as I'll need chain and sprocket soon, I'll probably order all the stuff later this fall, when I don't need to ride the bike as it will soon be fall and cold here, then I'll take it in and let the shop change out my chain and sprockets and while they are at it, replace that speedometer nut coming off the C/S sprocket.
TimBucTwo, I have absolutely no reading now, it must have totally given up behind there. Oh well, stuck for now at 43,503 miles.

RE: Speedometer reading on the fritz.
Thanks so much, I did read it, it is totally appreciated. I will probably bring my bike in to have the chain and sprockets done and have them replace that nut when they do them for me. I can do the stuff easily but I screwed up a masterlink clip once and threw the chain into the gearbox on my ZX7 so I vowed never to do them on my streetbike again. I change them on my CR500R whenever I need to and never really worry but the CBR is different, I don't mind paying. Thanks again malbojah.
