Default Spark plugs

Hi there guys , Just a quick question . Did a mini service the other day oil/oil filter , air filter but couldn't do the plugs cos I didn't have the correct size socket . Changed them today and found that they were only in there finger tight , didn't need the wrench to loosen them at all! Now all the mechanical experience I've had is on cars , serviced my own wheels for years so don't know if this is normal but it seems to me they should be a bit tighter than that?

The good side is she fired up nice and easy with the new plugs and runs realy well.

I suppose god is telling me its time to buy a torque wrench , can anyone advise on what range of settings it should have?

Thanks.

Hello Hawkwind,

Found in the manual the torque and type of spark plugs, guess that you still need to get a torque wrench tool....but deffinitely these are not hand thight.

Cheers and V's,
Luis

Thanks for the info Luis [sm=smiley20.gif], changed the little buggers already , was realy just curious about how loose they were and didn't want to over tighten them.

They should be just as stight as in a car. Since you have experience with cars, you know what "good-n-tight" means, right?

i would,nt use a torque wrench on spark plugs.the setting is very low, and unless your sure wrench is calibrated theres a risk.torque wrench's are supposed to be checked every six months or so if your looking for precission.so for plugs, screw in all the way by hand and then one half turn with the plug spanner.

Thanks for the advice there Paddy , so standard practice then . I think the guy that sold me the bike was probably a bit of a 'cowboy', oil was like treacle when I changed it (he said it had new oil and plugs)fortunatly there doesn't seem to be any major problems , though having said that I found that the fork top bolts weren't properly tightened either . Will be doing the fork seals soon so will be interesting to see what else I find
