Default Spare wire needs a home

I replaced the head gasket on my 87 model. I took the thermostat housing and coils off for access. The only wire that I didn't label has now lost its home. I have searched for hours without success.

It is the single wire coming from the fan switch at the front of the raditor, it has a white plug. I cannot find where it plugs into despite searching for hours. I expect that it has been staring at me all the time.

Can anyone let me know where I should be looking? I would take a photo of the wire but don't have access to a camera at the moment.

Also my bike doesn't have lower fairings around the motor, is there still any point to having the heat shield between motor and radiator?

The wire sounds like the one that goes to the thermosister from the fan.
that's what completes the circuit for the fan to run when the bike exceeds a certain temp.

No camera on your cell-phone? As far as the 'heat-shield', are you refering to the belly pan's 'V'-shaped front panel that connects the lowers at the bottom-front? That's
mostly a rock-shield and it should be fine to run if you are not using the lowers
anyway.

Here are a couple of pics I took but the lighting was terrible sorry. If you can't tell which wire it is let me know and I will try to get better ones.

It is the top wire that comes out of of fan switch at the front of the radiator.

I'm starting to get desperate now. Must have spent two hours today trying to find where the wire plugs into, and feeling pretty stupid that I can't find it. I am pretty sure it is the earth wire coming off the fan switch (it is the top wire coming off the fan switch at the front of the radiator. I have had a look at the wiring diagram but it is no use. Can someome with a 87-88 model have a look at their bike and let me what part of the bike the wire is going to?

Gonna be stripping my bike down for carb cleaning and valve job.
I'll try to get a pic of where I think that wire goes and post it later today.

That is defintiely the wire i am talking about, it is plugged into the switch, but I can't find where the top wire from the switch plugs into the wiring loom. I have searched and searched all over the bike without success.
