Well it actually made it worse linking all 3 pistons, now it's "nothing, nothing, nothing, indo!" haha

All the pistons looked good and moved in and out no problem so I'm pretty certain none of them are sticking, almost ate it going down my driveway.

It's gravel and a semi step downhill, was pulling the front brake and felt nothing then all the sudden the front locked up and slid a little

Does anyone happen to know the piston size in the stock front master cylinder?

Its written on the side of it. IIRC it's 1/2" ( or 12.7mm )

I did the calculations for caliper/master cylinder piston ratios some time back.

STANDARD master cylinder to STANDARD 2 piston caliper ratio is 15.375:1

STANDARD master cylinder to 3 piston caliper ratio is 23.374:1

CBR600F master cylinder to 3 piston caliper ratio is 14.949:1 ( almost the same as standard )
The CBR600F master cylinder is a 5/8" piston ( or 15.88mm ) and it matches the CBR1000F master cylinder for looks.

CB1300 master cylinder to 3 piston caliper ratio is 19.234:1
The CB1300 master cylinder is a 14mm piston and it matches the CBR1000F master cylinder for looks.



EDIT --- Just been looking at some other master cylinder to caliper ratios :

CBR1000F ( Pre CBS braking system - 2 pot calipers ) 16.00:1
CBR1000F ( CBS linked brakes ) 15.375:1
CBR1000F ( STD master cylinder - 3 pistons linked in caliper ) 23.374:1
CBR1000F ( CBR600F master cylinder - 3 pistons linked in caliper ) 14.949:1
CBR1000F ( CB1300 master cylinder - 3 pistons linked in caliper ) 19.234:1
CBR1100xx ( CBS linked brakes ) 15.701:1
CBR600F ( 4 pot calipers ) 12.69:1
CBR929RR ( 4 pot calipers ) 22.918:1

I was hoping to find a common ratio for linked and a common ratio for non-linked but that is not the case.

Personally I would be fitting the CB1300 master cylinder and linking all 3 pistons in the front calipers

I thought I had read somewhere that said all this but I couldn't remember where and couldn't find it.

Thanks deano, for the cbr600f is that any year of the f series? (f1, f2, ect.)

I think they are all the same but the workshop manual I got the info from was the F4 1999-2000 FX-FY model.

yeah, I can find the front master cylinder for the cb1300 on ebay but there all coming from china so shipping takes forever and I question there quality since they mass produce everything as cheaply as possible.

I can find used cbr600f front masters on ebay for days at reasonable prices so I think I'll give that a try, I'll give y'all an update as soon as I get the cash, get it ordered, then give it a try and thanks again dean0, you're the man

I still pop in for a read and to help out when I can - not much Blackbird action on this site unfortunately so there are a couple of other forums I spend more time on.

I came across my old CBR1000FL this week at one of our regular biker meets. Credit to the new owner, it is still spotless and runs very well.

I wish I had the space and funds to have kept the 1000F as well as the blackbird.

In the end it came down to owning the bike that as a youngster was an icon - the blackbird.

Nice to hear from you Dean0. The most likely reason for the different ratios may be the mechanical advantage the lever length of the different bikes.
