Slipping out of neutral

Slipping out of neutral
Hello again chaps. Having a couple of issues with my 88 model - first of all the neutral switch died and now my bike will slip into first gear from neutral while on the side stand. Doesn't do it when the bike is upright so not a problem when riding but a pain inthe **** when warming it up. Any ideas?

Well that's definitely not normal!
When you say it disappears, do you have to top it up? If so you've got a leak somewhere, otherwise I'd suspect air in the system.
If it's a leak you need to find where it's leaking from, trace the system from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.
If there's no leak, I'd bleed the system to get rid of any air.
Does the clutch lever feel normal?

"Could it be due to the clutch? All the fluid disappears from the reservoir on occasion."
Clutch slave cylinder seal is junk imo, chances are it's not going fully into gear as a result of the clutch not being fully disengaged / released. But it may be a bent
selector fork too from someone jammin' the hell out out of it it the past

My guess would be bent selector forks as Sprock suggests.
Clutch fluid loss isn't a good thing but I don't see a connection with it dropping into first.
Definitely NOT a good thing if on the sidestand..........................EEEK !
I'd replace the sidestand switch.
Is your neutral light working ?
If it's intermittent I'd say Sprocks suggestion on partial selection would be spot on - the light may be telling you the story..........
