Default Sitting under a tarp in the rain killed my bike.

Hey all,

Get this, It has rained for 2 days straight here (YIPPIE!!!).
Mean while the bike has been covered outside in the rain ( no big deal right?.. WRONG!).
So I pull the cover off and it starts right up. I zip down to the store for a drink. I get back on the bike to start and its slow slow cranking and then nothing but dash lights as far as I can see.
I push start it and zip back home. Put it on the charger and start reading about this charging system.
The fuses are ok, the battery tests good (it better, its only 2 months old).
[side note, ive read about the rectifier being the cause of this problem... is it true you can test the worthiness of a stator by starting the bike and removing the positive cable on the battery... if it stops running the rectifier is bad???]

Anyone know if this will work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Regul...#ht_2260wt_941

Tell me what I need to do or buy guys. Thanks for everything you do here.

I don't think that ebay R/R will work. For one thing, the connector is different. Before buying a new R/R anyway, check the leads running to it. They're known to fry and if one does, you won't charge.

Check all the electrical connections for water first
Charge the battery until you get V12.5 or better when disconnected from the charger.
Try to start the bike - if it runs, check the voltage across the battery terminals at +3500 revs - should be around 13.5V or better. If it isn't then either the reg/rec or battery is probably tired. I'd also go with what Paco said on the wiring and the reg/rec.
Do these for a start and we'll work from there.

BTW - What temp has the weather been at where you are ???? chilly ?

good luck and let us know how you go ....

......
Not chilly here dood. Mid 80s!!!

I have a update. I pulled the plastics off and let it dry out for a few hours while charging the battery. Took it out for a 20 mile ride and seems to be holding/ building charge ok now.
If I had to guess Id say my bike cover is crap! We will see, every ride will seem like a test ride now. LOL
