+1 on that, I (and tons of others) run that T6 5w40 religiously. It's in everything I own.

I love this site and the way you people from the other side of the pond chuck around the Shell Rotella diesel oil name for our engines.

Us poor UK people don't have that over here and I have spent a fair few hours searching for something similar that can be purchased over here to no avail.

At the moment I am using 10/40 motorbike oil which isn't bad at all but I really do want to use the diesel stuff if it is as good as you say.

Have any of the UK guys got diesel oil in their bikes and if so what is it?

Help!!!

Chippy

I've ran diesel oil since reading the comments on this site Chippy.

Just bought some to do my spring oil change, got the bog standard Unipart 15w50 diesel oil, Pro M100, £20.44 for 5L. I'll dig out the product code if you're interested.

Thanks Steve I will have a look.

I did an oil and filter change about a month ago and apart from starting her up a couple of times she hasn't been out anywhere.

I will certainly be going the diesel oil route when it comes to the next oil change. Your price is about £10 cheaper than the motorbike oil I used.

Rotella is Rimula on the other side of the big aquarium Chippy

Unlike the USA Rimula has "energy saving versions" , those you
do not want.

Rimula R2 Extra Multi would be the equiv to Rotella 15/40

Thanks for the information Sprock, I'll keep away from the "energy saving versions" and look for the R2 extra multi.

Mind you after some of the things I have read on here and other forums any normal Diesel oil will work so long as you change it regularly.

Correct.
Any diesel oil without lubricity improvers, ie "the extra slippery stuff they put in car oil" will do the job.
With the price of Motorcycle oil here at $10 for 1litre and Diesel oil at $20 for 5Litres the savings are evident. And it's a better product for the job.

As for Seafoam - why would anyone put a detergent cleaning agent in your bike oil ?
It'll remove the protection provided by the oil to all your load bearing areas like bearings, cams, etc etc. Not surprised that some of our members have had problems. You may as well run the engine without oil !!!

just to add my 2cents i put it in my cars 3.0 dohc engine crankcase cuz it sits in storage and had the good ole tick on start up with non adj lifters. i figured the dino oil had sat too long in the lifters. i added the specified amount, drove 100 miles then changed it to full synthetic 5w30. lifter noise gone and hasnt come back in 2yrs.
i dont know what it does to the clutch discs.
its more likely better to leave well enough alone and be satisfied but everybody eventually learns the hard or easy way debpending lol. Rotella diesel is good, cheap n has cleaning detergents.
i run Amsoil 10w40 full synthetic because of the smooth shifting and have yet to see it not looking like a fresh oil change after 5k miles but its expensive.

My $.02 - I switched to the Mobil 1 10W40 4T synthetic motorcycle racing oil because I use the Mobil 1 in all my other vehicles. Like the Amsoil it's expensive but looks like new after thousands of miles, shifts nice and smooth, never slips, etc.

Synthetic is more expensive, but test after test has shown it's advantages: lower oil temps, longer time between changes, less engine wear, better overall protection, etc. I'm sold on it, anyway.

I've found that (just like with my cars) in the end the price difference isn't nearly as much as you'd think (when you factor in mileage difference, etc. The peace of mind is nice as well. =)
