Safe tire sealant

Safe tire sealant
Hey guys, I'm looking for some input. I recently picked up a staple in my back tire from our construction going on at work. That got me thinking and reading about tire sealants. Now, this isn't my first rodeo, and as an ex-machanic and someone who coats rims for a living, I know stuff like Fix-a-Flat can be pretty nasty stuff.
Before I go any further, let me clarify that I'm NOT trying to fix this tire with a band-aid lol. It's junk to me now. But, in my reading (on this very site I believe) I read an entry about a fella who said he always used some kind of product in his tires that "allegedly" bonded to the inside of the tire to create a temporary "self-healing and balancing" layer within the tire. The name of the product, however, has slipped my mind.
I commute regularly on my 1kf and something like that sounds like it'd be useful to at least get me back home in the event of picking something up heading to work. I don't, however, want something I'm going to have to sand off my rim every tire change lol. Do you folks have any idea what I am referring to, or know of any kind of sealant that you would recommend for a bike tire?
