Default Rough and Snatchy to 3500 rpm?

Hello All!

I have owned a CBR in the past and traded up to a Pan Euro a while back - mistake.

I have bought a CBR1000F again in the last few days, 19000 miles from new, 1991 - MINT.

Only problem I have is that when riding below 3500 rpm, the motor feels lumpy and rough. The engine is sweet and extremely quiet. No real problems at all.

QUESTION.

Do they all run like this at low revs or does it need tuning?

There are no mods, completely standard. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Johnny.

Use a timing light to see that the ignition is advancing correctly, change the spark plugs, and clean the carbs.

The pull hard from idle. Some thing is definately not right with your bike.

Put new spark plugs in.

Clean carbies.

Also is your chain stuffed or lacking oil. I spent ages tracking a problem with what I thought was power down low only to realise it was because I was loosing a lot of HP trying to drive a stuffed chain & sprockets.

HEY- Had the very same issue with my all stock '94. A carb cleaning, with special attention to the low speed circuit did the trick. Spray carb cleaner, stiff hair acid brush, and compressed air. Careful not to damage slide bellows. My bike had sat alot for years before I got it. Something like 1800 miles in six years. I'm surprized it ran as well as it did. Still needs a few things to make it the ST I want, but it runs better now with those tiny passages de-cruded. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

After everything has been cleaned as adviced in earlier posts above, you should also check/set the float levels when carbs are opened, and sync the carbs when the engine has stabilised at operating temperature. I use a meter from http://www.carbtune.com/ which is great. You can also built one yourself by a U-shaped hose filled with oil. Y'll find info on DIY on the Internet.
