right side accumulation water tank

Hello to all the readers of the forum. I have a cbr 1000 f sc21 from 1987. I write from italy. I repaired it in all its parts but I don't use it. I am a car mechanic. How does the right side accumulation water tank work? Should it be kept full of refrigerant up to the level mark? Or is it a radiator surplus water storage tank? If it were a reserve, how can the radiator take water from it if it is lower as a level? If it is a simple discharge of the radiator surplus water why an intermediate tank? Thank you all for your answer

It is an expansion tank. If there is any air in the system, the air expands and pushes past the radiator cap when heated. This air goes to the expansion tank where it is purged out of the system. If there is any air left in the engine, upon cooling it creates a vacuum that pull coolant from the tank into the engine. The vacuum is strong enough to pull coolant past the radiator cap. After time, any air in the cooling system should be purged and replaced with coolant.

So your answer is, yes fill to the line and let the system work.
