" THE BIG BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH " !!!
8 hrs to re boot it successfully and get back into windows , only to have it crash every 2 minutes back to the BIG BLUE NASTY SCREEN!!

then ...
about 30 hrs of trouble shooting to try to save the drive ...
It has all my Web Master accounts , Designed websites , client details , work email storage and a ton of assorted business data on it ..

Still can't run the OS on it for more than about 5 min at a time , but from the new drive I can at least read the data on the old one ..

all a pain in the **** !! ....but om getting through it now ...

Maybe one of these days someone will invent a software that not only stops such intrusions, but send a terminal intrusion back to the source. That would be sweet.

Try running AVG as a sweeper programme - it's very good.
Two versions, free and purchase but I've never heard of anything getting through it.
FWIW
Bugger software - gimme a Barrett M82- terminate any bugs at the source................

[QUOTE=CBRclassic;848475]Yup ...been using AVG for years on all my PC's Pete .. it is good ..
but its no good if you leave it turned off and the firewall down ...

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had two "blue screens of death in the last 2 years - lost all my financials and everything else on the machines - lightning strikes will do that to you........

A Bug that doesn't die when you format the drive ?????
I didn't know that was possible...............
Chit has to be serious stuff.
We need to find out who could have done that to you, and why...........

At least it's fixed Mate, but what a bugger, eh ?

Sounds like a frickin nightmare PITA Steve!!

I keep meaning to buy myself an external hard drive to back everything up , I think you just convinced me it's a good idea!! Then I'd just take a hammer to it

To get back on thread , riding my CBR is better than.................GOING TO WORK!!!!!

Believe me I've tried it , surprising I know , but work is just no substitute for a good thrash on the bike

Is better than listening to those two Bitches Hawk-Trout going through their monthly
PMS routines ..........what a buncha pissy pussies. 2 real WildCats LOL

Bad chit with the Trojan that got into your PC there Steve......HiJackThis is the tool to
use in that case ......but use it carefully.......works good if you know a bit about
Windahs registry, services and dll's .

Stay away from certain torrent sites and search through google as it will
flag sites with autoloading malware and trojans.

Avast free is the best performing one I have found yet and recommend to
colleagues, friends and clients alike

Oh yeah I use GetDataBackFast to recover drives from crashes , fdisks , formats
and law enforcement data forensics..........if the raw data is still on the disk
even after the master file indexes , directory indexes etc are destroyed
this prog gathers up the raw data and with algorithms comuputes back the
indexes sometimes you lose the TLD top level directory name but the data
is always there.

If you ever throw out a PC always take the drives out ......drive a 6 inch
nail through it or throw it in salt water for a week ................otherwise
it can be read no matter how many times you format or fdisk it

Fdisk and format only remove index references to the data not the actual
raw data itself.

I have a zero sum formatter I use for that stuff that basically loads the
entire media to be scrubbed with 1 0 1 0 1 0 etc until full .....no way
back after that happens especially when you run it a few times.

6 inch nail cheaper and faster though

Not as fast or as fun as an AR-15, though...
Won't survive the old reliable 12ga shotty, either.

Good tips, though, sprock. I bet you have plenty of remedys for the 1189 "back door" infections, too..
