Default Replacing fork seals, what else should be done while i'm in there?

250 miles into this year, my fork seals blew (leaking like a sive, from both sides!). My front end also dives A LOT during braking going full stroke, is this a direct result of blown seals/low oil? I know its old rubber, so i'm getting a seal kit...do I need anything else or should I do anything else (as far as what is necessary).

Thanks in advance!

Have you installed New springs? adjusted for sag/preload with spacer length? Race tech has a adjustable cartridge valve kit, I got mine on ebay for 75.00. Progressive springs for 60.00. You can get the seals on ebay also. Hope this helps.

Depends on ya budget.

You can just go for springs (Forget progressive imho) and adjust air gap and oil viscosity to suit.
If you have a bit more $$$ you can get it re-valved.
Or you have a bit more $$$ you can get the Racetech Gold Valves.

Or if you have a spare $1500 you can throw in a set of Ohlins internals

At this time its also a really good idea to replace the upper and lower fork bushes as well

Thanks for the replies!

I ordered the seal kits and some orings for the caps and anti-dive. I was hoping there was a specification for the springs in the manual, there is, so I decided to hold until I get it apart to measure them (I wish there was a spring force spec though). I would really prefer not spending so much money on it upgrading to those performance valves.

Do you guys know any problems with the anti-dive valve (what wears out)?

Do you mean you want to know what spring length your springs should be to see if they are cactus or what weight replacement springs you should go for?

I guy I know just spent $10,000 on Ohlins forks & shock!!!

Yes, the manual has a free length for the spring with a minimum spec.

The non-existant spring force is just another spring inspection, well for some other applications not suspension related though (at a certain compressed distance it should exert "x" amount of force).

Just get a set of new springs. Its almost a 20 yr old bike. Think about how many time those spings have been compressed.

Racetechs are dirt cheap in the US.

You're killing me Trips...just ordered a pair of springs from them (34.7x340mm .95kg)

...now onto this seal driver...errr...i'm probably going to try and make one, is it just a hub that goes over the shaft (made out of soft metal)?

I've heard of people using PVC pipe as a seal driver.

Just use the old seal as a driver for the new one or WHS and use some PVC pipe.
