Rec/Reg connector. Where to buy? Or hard wire?
I have a badly burnt plastic connector between the alternator and the rec/reg.
Is it possible to buy a replacement (7-pin, 3 large spade, 4 smaller)? Or should I solder wires direct to my new rec/reg and put in my own high current connector block separately? Thoughts from the brains trust? |
I would be interested as well. Mine was replaced before I bought it, but the burnt old one with the melted plug end was left in the little storage box under the seat, so I want to redo it from the stator back. Doubt just the regular old replacement will last long.
There is a guy on the west coast that builds modified vehicles and actually specializes in bulletproof rec/reg parts with detailed instructions. He also builds a special gear/transfer box for driveline applications. I don't think it's the "Rick's" product. Sadly I cannot find him again and didn't bookmark his site - If anyone knows what I'm talking about please chime in. When I'm ready to do that work I want that guy's stuff. |

https://www.z1enterprises.com/electr...tors-wire.html You could go to e-bay and search for a wire harness for $40 or so and cut the connector out. I'd solder it together and bypass the connector unless you feel the need to keep unplugging the R/R. |

Keep us posted. It's the only way to know what works and what doesn't, like the e-bay R/R that everyone got (including myself) that didn't work.

My ebay R/R arrived last week. Cleaned the connector contacts as best I could, installed it with some heat transfer paste and it seemed to work as ther last one - 14.4V with headlights off, 14.8 with the headlights on.
I rode to work the other day and noticed it got to 14.9, with an occasional flick to 15.0V while riding. Took for a 250km club ride (lights off as during the day and with a group), 14.4V constant, nil issues. The R/R didn't seem to be running hot, but then it was only 10degrees and we were going at a steady 80-110km/hr, so plenty airflow. I shall see how things go and decide whether to hard wire the R/R if it shows any sign of poor connection. |
