Rattling engine noise on a 1000F after replacement of Cam Chain

Hi all,

I am Sam from Kenya and have a 1990 CBR 1000F. I had a rattling sound in my engine a few months back and i bought a new cam chain and had it replaced. the problem is the rattling sound did not dissapear and of late is becoming worse.
Kindly advise on what could be happening and what should be done to resolve this sound.

Regards

Did you replace the cam chain tensioner at the same time as the chain? If you did not, that will be the problem.

My 88 600f also makes a rattle noise at very light throttle at lower rpm (4k or less). Does not make any bad noise at 1/4 or more throttle. I am hoping i dont need to replace the chain as the bike only has 15k on it. Following thread for update.

Confirm valve adjustment. If they are loose, they'll rattle, but if they're too tight, they'll destroy the cams

It's normal for the chain to rattle when cold, but it should quiet down once the bike is warm

Sam, I'm also thinking cam chain tensioner. What type oil are you using?
You need to use good MC rated oil and change it regularly.

Hi. Thanks for this. I did not replace the CAM chain tensioner. Let me plan to do that then
. Thanks again.

i use mineral oil 20W50 and change it regularly. say after every 2000 - 3000kms. Thanks for your input.

i will confirm valve adjustment.
It is rattling even when warm.
