Radiator

She has sprung a leak! wouldn't know where to start looking for a radiator. Are radiators easily interchanged? You think they still make em for 1987 cbr's. the bottom section of mine looked like a machine gun hit it..are these cause by rocks? or the fan?

Not sure if Honda would still make something that fits (probably) but there are at least 5-6 of them on e*ay and a couple of those are located right there in Oz. Early and late models also look pretty similar judging by the pictures. Good luck!

New ones go for about £350 that I've seen, what it would cost you out there is anyone's guess.

E-bay is your best place to look, I'm sure if the exact model isn't available you could check the part numbers in the parts fiche.

CBR1988 08-13-2011 11:23 AM

Hey :

Early and late are very different, as the hose sizes are smaller on the 87-88 models and take different pathes. A 94-?? CB1000F will work but the mounts are a bit different. I had a CB1300SF on my other bike and took a little fab on the mounts but it worked as well. plus it is a little thicker and cools very well. The 89-00 CBR1000F are meant to work with a outside the bodywork thermo housing, its under the petrol tank on 87-88 bikes.

here you can see the diff:

Hey Aussie Jonno thanks heaps for the offer mate but do you think it will be compatible with an 87 model.. does it look like the pic attached?
might have to pm ya.. cheers mate

Aussie Johnno 08-14-2011 02:38 AM

Mine does look different to the photo.

Mine has pipes coming in at the top and out at the bottom, your look like they are at the same end, i would think this a big difference

hoo hoo after many days of searching with no success finding the right model radiator...asked the mrs to help me find one, and lo and behold she found one only 10 min drive away was a small little bike parts place and he had an 87 1000f model radiator with a good working fan and sold it to her for only 90$. It was like Christmas finding this! im stoked. put her all back together this morn and tested. seems like all is good.no green stuff on the ground and the fan kicks in at 1/2 temp. :) very happy

hey guys need to ask a question and don't want to start a new thread - i need to get into the area where i can reach the valve clearances, the ticking noise is getting louder and i believe affecting no 3 cyl performance, can i just unbolt the top 8 bolts and pop the cover and access the valve adjusters while engine still on bike?

Shadow 08-20-2011 10:16 AM

Yes, no problem :)

kilgoretrout 08-20-2011 11:09 AM

Yep, valve adjustments are real easy on these. It's like working on a civic or toyota.... but slightly smaller. lol..

Regular adjustable tappets is another thing to make sure we tell Honda to put on the new 1000F. None of that shim and bucket bullchit. :)

was reading through manual and it said i would need a special 3mm hexagonal
socket..not sure what it means? its inferring to modify a standard socket? but how? is that to get the crankshaft hole cap out?

MadHattr059 08-21-2011 11:22 AM

Probably refering to a hex key on a socket shell/adapter.

There's a "how to on the tappet adjustments" - very well done with pics as I recall. Check the how to section - has pics of the special spanner everyone here seems to use.......

Hi all re hashing an old thread here but am in desperate need for a radiator for my 93 cbr1000 if anyone knows of any available TIA Lse

tentacleslap 01-27-2018 09:41 PM

You could check ebay for a replacement, or maybe call around to a couple rad shops in town. They've been known to work miracles

Probably a good idea to start a new thread to get more attention from the members on the board. Happy hunting
