Purchasing an '87 Cane with 38,000 miles
Hi guys,
I'm purchasing an '87 Hurricane 1000 with 38,000 miles on it. What is most common to be replaced on this bike at that high of mileage? What should I look at, engine wise, to see if it's excessively worn?
I am pretty sure it has some cam chain noise but I'm not 100% certain. She runs excellent however.
Thanks so much.
Rabid

Hiyu mate .. welcome aboard the CBRForum..
(A good rule of thumb ... with all older rides)
Canes are very good if you start with a good one..?
("38,000 miles") that's not too bad for its years...
Mate .. they all have a few rattles ...
sawnee mentioned near all the things that can go wrong or may be needed , but they not written in stone ...except for the camchain+tensioner
Get yourself a manual online free and read up, so you can do the replacement when it is needed...
They are a fantastic ride but as they are a low cost ride to buy , you do not want to go spending much cash on them at the start.... if you can help it
( unless your well off as far as cash goes? )
Maintenance is another thing altogether and does not really count, as we all have to keep them in spares and serviced as we go..
...but try to get or make sure she is a good one so you have the cash to look after her as you go ...
anyway mate ...

lol, well said classic. You make things always sound so uplifting. Ever look into being a motivational speaker? You could be the Next Tony Robbins!
But in all seriousness they are great bikes, if you can get past the few issues. (if they even occur on your ride) for awhile there I was riding the bike 534miles (267miles one way) once a week, for 5weeks and I cant say my *** didnt hurt after the trip, but it was a very smooth ride and I just cruised past everyone with ease. I think one of the positives for me is that the bike is pretty heavy... I live in a very windy area and it seems im more "planted" then a smaller/lighter bike. I will say the braking power isnt the greatest for the beast, but it get the job done. Ok enough of my rants.

Thank you everyone for the awesome replies! The knowledge base on this forum is incredible.
I'll post some pics later.
My rear shock is indeed a little soggy as pointed out above. So far, besides the front lower plastics being a little rough (and a rip in the seat), she's in good shape.
