Plastic welding?
#11
I used the soldering iron method for years, then moved to making my own ABS glue from acetone and scrap plastics. Currently I use a product called Plastex which is especially good for remoulding broken tabs. but the soldering iron hasn't been put away. I still use it for tack welding parts into place before gluing or filling.

For the fairing repairs I've had to do over the years I've just used the soldering iron method with scrap pieces of abs plastic from old fairings. As long as you apply it at the right temperature it sticks very well and forms a good repair. I've never seen the need for a plastic welder or anything. Araldite has also been my friend for a few repairs !!!!
