Parts crossover between 2G 1000f's?
Do most of the hard parts crossover between 1990-1996?I know bodywork and colors changed and they added linked brakes, but did things like electrical and engine parts stay the same?
The reason I am asking is I am trying to freshen up my 1990 1000f (new Wilbers shock on the way too!) and I want new handlebar switches (they are faded bad and the hi-lo doen't work sometimes (corroded)).
They are discontinued for 1990-1991 but would the 1993 work? The only difference I am aware of is that the 90-91 had "smooth" switches and the 92 started with radius surfaces on the swicthes themselves.
What chance that the 93 switches would plug up?
On that note, do you think radiator hoses, gaskets, etc. from late model cross between 90-91? Sooner or later Honda will discontinue the hard parts too...
Thanks for the opinions?

I have the circuit diagrams - I'll scan them for you, so you can see what wiring goes where.....and whether they would plug up. I THINK they will.......
I have a 1990 model, but replaced the stator with a 93 model, which works fine. There are many parts not interchangeable, like discs and calipers (89/90 don't fit 93-96 and vice versa,) fork sizes differ too, but a good number of engine parts, gaskets etc are the same. Regulator/rectifiers and camchains are the same from 90-96.Carbs too, I think.

Pre-'90 forks are not the same as later. '90 started cartridge shocks. I don't think forksare the samefrom '90-'91 to '93 and up but because of mounting tabs on the lower legsfor the calipers, not the actual tube, spring, or anything else.
Wheels are interchangeable from '90 up but again, not sure about rear rotors.
Carbs changed from '90-'91 to '93 and up. I think they are actually the same from the first '87 to '91. As an assembly, the later rack will interchange with the earlier years including attachments, hoses, etc but the individual parts for each are different. Not sure about individual parts details from '93 and up years.
Handlebars are the same '90 and up.

If your switches are faded from the sun, try rubbing leather dubbin on them. I use stuff called Renapur which is a mixture of beeswax and other stuff, designed for leathers, but is V good for making black handlebar switch panels or even plactic car bumpers look new.
Silicon spray in a can is also not bad.....

I thought this was interesting. The Givi mounting kit for '89 and up are the same. It tends to make me think the frames are the same.
Something else interesting is that Give list the years from '89 to '02.

Thanks so much for all of the replies. I'll try some of the restoration advice to see what happens but I see some new 93 switches in my future. Worst case scenario is that they may have changed the plug configuration but I can always use the old plugs and splice (heat shrink and solder of course).
I am willing to bet if they didn't have to change something (related to bodywork and/or linked brakes) then the hard parts will crossover.
When I put the new Wilbers Shock and front springs in I'll have to do a writeup. It is like riding an old sofa now so I am expecting a vast improvement.
Thanks again and if any body else has any ideas about what changed from year to year keep em coming!

I am parting out my '91 1000F if you would like to purchase the switches from the left handle bar. They all worked great when I wrecked and worked after when I started it a couple times. Let me know if you are interested and we can set something up.
