Opinion on Avon Tyres?

So I'm back on the market for a front tyre again :(

Have been running the Michellin PR2 and it's lasted well but a new one will cost me £110 , the same place is selling the Avon Road Rider AM26 for £77!

Has anyone got experience of Avon tyres , if so please share :)

Hi Hawk – not been around for a while, just lurking :)

MANY years ago I ran Avons on my VF750FD and loved them.

Coming off a motorway I entered a roundabout WAY too fast and had to crank the bike right over to the point where stuff was scraping.
I got round and as I lifted her up and accelerated away I looked in my mirrors to see the dreaded blue lights flashing away.

I pulled over and the cop got off his bike, walked over to me getting his notepad out, he knelt down at the rear of my bike and started writing. So I said

“Er, can I help you mate” he looked up and said;

“Its OK mate, I’ve got one of these bikes, and if you got round that roundabout doing that speed just wanted to check out which tyres your using cos I’m buying some”

He never gave me any hassle lol – don’t know what the tyres are like now, but for me the brand name is an excellent choice!

Well hello stanger :D Long time no see!

Thanks for the reply Harry. I know Avon make quite a few good quality car tyres , but no-one seems to mention them for bikes :icon_shrug:

I was looking at this site , they've always been the best I could find on price and it includes everything .

Just have to click the brown button for bike tyres (took me a while to figure it out:icon_doh:)

I ran two sets of the sport tour AVON's on my '94 1000F. I have 3pc GIVI set and traveled with the MRS. perched behind me on many a leg. We ran heavy is what I'm tryin to say. They lasted about 8000 miles. the front started cupping out much sooner than I liked on the first set. On second set the tread pattern was changed and less prone to it. I also bumped pressure up 2 psi on the front.
I switched to the Mich PR2 and am very pleased. I have about 10K now and plan to change them after the group ride down to the Smokys.

I've tried all types of tyres and prefer the Conti road attack. They suit the Big girl down to the ground..

Avons are great for cornering, and in the wet. The rubber compound is a bit softer than most of the others, but my mate Dave got around 8000 miles and had to change - front was finished, and back wasn't much better. He loved the Avons.

I'm glad to hear that mate. I just bought a front Road Attack and hope it suits her. I'll need it on the front of the 1000F before the BB so I hope that it lives up to all that I have read and heard about it.
