Chippy, brother, lets not get too crazy here.
We are talking 20 + year old bikes, parts/seals wear out, break and S*** happens.
See the time needed to repair, as a way to escape crazy daily routine life.
Do the job yourself, it sure will be done right, save you money, give you sense of pride and accomplishment.
Put Shock Boot on to avoid chips and road grime/grit getting on to the fork tubes.
Looks old school too.
My wife says, that when I am not fixing something on my car or bikes, I am braking something, so I can fix it. This is my therapy, it's cheaper than paying a Psychiatrist. XD

I ended up taking the fork to a guy down the road, a local bike shop. I got the call the bolt at the bottom of the fork leg was seized solid. So I gave them permission to do what they can to sort it. An hour later all done and ready for collection and cost not a lot.
Today I've got a 2 hour ride to a suspension specialist who is going to do all the measurements for my new springs and some gold valves. It will then be another front end strip down wrap and pack forks and send them to him so he can sort them and get them back to me for when I get back off the rig.
Once refitted it back to the guy for a full set up. Looking forward to having a proper handling bike sorted for my weight and style of riding.
I'll let you know what the difference is like.
