OK, here's a question!!
 

Anyone know the paint code, name or whatever of the white paint on my wheels?

89 f-k in red, white + blue with white wheels. The white on the panels is metalic but the wheels are a plain white. A neighbour is gonna paint them for me this winter if I get the paint.

Any ideas?

You might want to reconsider painting your wheels. Wheels tend to take a lot of abuse and paint isn't the best choice. Even the real hard two stage catalyzed epoxy paints are some what brittle and will chip. You might consider powder coating as an alternative. Considering the coast of a good quality paint ($100+ a quart) powder coating isn't really much more expensive and it's much more durable.
www.ronayers.com might have the paint code for your wheels. Look at the online Honda parts fiche, they have the paint codes there. However I *think* the stock wheels are powder coated rather then painted.

Steve, I agree with captain o.
During tire changes and break pad replacement, the wheels get hit or banged and paint will not hold up as well as powder coating. Also the rear is also being doused with cleaners to remove the chain oil or wax.

Have you checked the price of primer and paint lately?
One of the sponsors does powder coating. Read some of the threads. He post pictures of his work. He gets $90 per wheel and does the prep work. I think you will get more bang for the buck with the powder coating. It was a nice jester for your neighbor to offer to paint them for you.

I was in full agreement with you all and was planning on having my wheels powder coating during the winter at a cost of about £140 including delivery. I know it's the way to go from a durability point of view, but, I was showing a neighbour my sons new FZ6 yesterday and in conversation he asked me how 'my old bus' was going!! The cheek of it eh??? Anyway, I explained that there were a few things I wanted to do to her this winter including the wheels. He comes back with "I'm a sprayer by trade, and if you get the paint i'll spray em for nothing". Seems like a good deal to me even if I only get a few years out of em.

Would you go for it or stick with powder coating?

I've done a bit of phoning around this morning and have found a company close to Steve and myself who will powder coat our wheels for £60 each. That price is based on a colour of white and will vary with other colours. They want the wheels prepared and I'm waiting for a reply from another firm who will do that, so we could be looking around £100 per wheel.
I won't post again in this thread with the other details as it is probably not relevant to other people, I will e-mail Steve the details. I just wanted to let people know that there are places in the UK to get this sort of thing done.

I found a place in Yorkshire that will do all the prep work and powder coat for about £130 plus delivery. Just gotta try to find them again now[sm=rolleyes.gif]
