Still waiting from the Honda Dealer for the gasket. I figured I'd wait till I got the gasket before taking off the cover first. I'm thinking its probably a hairline fracture, hopefully in the cover and not the case....Tks 4 assking

Update:
Well it turns out the crankcase cover is cracked. Going to try the JB Weld trick first before popping out 50 bones for a replacement. It looks like when the bike goes down on the case, the mounting bolts are "pushed" into the case, causing it to crack the case. Oh well...........

That's exactly like what I had. That will fix so easily with the JB Weld. That location is not a high stress or pressure area. In the photo at about the 4:30 position, you can see the round casting marks from where they poored the aluminum into the mold. So long as the JB Weld doesn't get above that height, you'll be golden. Naturally you'll want to get the remainder of the gasket material off before putting it back on, but I'm sure you knew that. The JB Weld has a consistancy of warm peanut butter. It will smooth out after a short period of time before it cures when you glob it on. Be generous, but don't over do it. Good luck and keep us posted. Take an after shot before you put it back on, I forgot to do that on mine.

I think I'm done. Just waiting for it to cure. I packed it in good with a popcicle stick to get it in the crack the best I could. Once I get it on I'll let you know if it holds up. Any sanding to be done? I looks below that casting circle, so it shouldnt touch anything.

You're right! You're done. That's it. Nope, no sanding. It will dry with a gloss sheen to it, kinda giving it a wet look to it and it will be a little smoother than what's in the photo now, but that already looks great. So, what are you going to do with that extra $50 thats burning a hole in your pocket now... ? Congratulations on a job well done. Just don't forget to get the rest of the gasket material off before putting it back on.

Oh yea MarkR, I forgot to say thanks for the compliments on the bikes. The blue one is actually Purple, but the photo's don't really do it justice. I'm partial to red myself. I don't know, it's a Honda thing I guess.

Hello...

I'm curious, what kind of drop caused that cover to leak??? I have a leak somewhere that only seems to happen when the bike is running and for the life of me I havn't been able to locate it!!! I did drop it at a stop a year or so ago on the left side because I slipped. Geeze.. I wonder if that leak only appears after the bike is good and warm. You know, heat metal expands, cold it shrinks. I would be VERY happy if that is what it is.

Now u have got me curious and I may have to yank it off to see!!! Let me know!!

Any kind of drop. slow or fast could cause a leak like that ..........a fast drop is likely to manifest itself quicker, but first step is look below the plastic cover on the left side for oil.......
