My 1990 F-L has only 15,000 miles on the clock, but the last 3,000 have been added over the past 2 months. When I had her serviced and dyno'd recently the mechanic had to top her up with 750ml of oil. That sounds a lot to me.

I checked the oil level last night and the dipstick was dry -EEK!- though the oil pressure warning light hadn't come on. I added some oil, maybe about 300ml, and after the ride to work this morning, the level was between upper and lower on the dipstick. The bike felt smoother too, but that's probably just psychological!

I know she's an old girl, but when I had new CBR1000F's in 1987 and 1988 the only fluid I had to think about was fuel!

I tried synthetic, no difference. I guess I'll just start topping off with the regular stuff every time I lube the chain at 500 miles.

Now, I think I have the same problem here, will try to change the valve seals but I am not sure it will help....

I don't see anyone selling 1000f piston rings apart from the dealer and they are pretty damn expensive...

From what I see, the sleeves can be replaced...

^ When the seals go you may get smoking on start up. More often when you back off and get back on the throttle you get a puff. Have someone follow you and back off the throttle and then open it back up. They should see the puff.

yeah sure I know but I don't get any smoke.....

changing the valve seals is not a problem so I will do it when replacing the cam tensioner, will try to use denser oil s well, but if it does not help I will give her new sleeves and rings....

Has anyone of you tried to adapt some mahle/goetze rings from car application because I am not going to pay 50euro for a piston set...

The diameter is 77, I don't know about the height of the rings..
