Shadow and I had this discussion a long time ago, I use 20w50 semi-synth, it helps keeping oil pressure in the chamber of the cct. Mine is at 170000kms and that is what i use since i own it. Makes noise starting the bike for about a minute then all is fine, i let the engine warm up before soliciting it.

Does not burn oil yet!

Yeah, I'm in the Chicago area. About 40 miles West of Chicago in Elgin.

Bel-ray and the Bike is quite happy. in fact i was reading an article in Practical sportbike and it confirm what i was thinking.

For bikes our age no need of synth semi-synth is more than good enough to keep the motor happy.

Back to your oil question, I use 15/40 semi synthetic. Never had problems over the last 15years.

I've been using Rotella T 15-40 diesel in my bikes and have been satisfied. I've used T based on opinions (long ago) in an ST forum.

Recently, I changed the oil on my 2012 NC700 (~6k miles), 2003 ST1300 (~48k miles), and 2007 Gold Wing (~20k miles)

This time I swapped to Rotella T6 5-40 full synth. What a noticeable change for the better !! Shifting is much smoother and engine / tranny temps are slightly lower. The added benefit is better engine / tranny wear.

After I reassemble the Hurricane, I'll change it's oil to T6.

(because of positive feedback from my bikes , I've switched my 2001 Wrangler to T6, and will eventually switch other cars to T6)

It's probably not the best oil to run in a non-diesel automobile. It works well in bikes because of the lack of slippery additives that don't get along with wet clutches. In your car, those additives are beneficial to enhance lubrication.

T6 is the full synth for non diesel vehicles. I did mention I was using the Rotella "T" (diesel) on all my bikes, but have switched to T6.

I may have implied I was running "T" in the Jeep, but was not - I was running regular ol' Dino oil, but switched to T6. Sorry for the confusion, but thanks for the catch !
