Default Oh Dear!!!

Was out for a run with a m8 the other day on our CBR's. He then started complaining that his temp gauge was not working.

So thinking it may be something more serious i took the side panel off and checked the expansion tank, Empty, ... So let the bike cool down then removed the radiator cap.. No signs of fluid. Poured some water in the rad and low and behold it poured out the bottom of the fairing.....

It turned out to be the cylinder head coolant pipe..

As you can see from pictures below. so now i have my m8's very ill CBR sitting in my garage until new pipe arrives.

OUCH !!!!!
Lucky..................strong bikes these.
Do that to some other makes and you'll hear the crying from up the street.
Good catch - question ?
Couldn't you make a set of those out of copper pipe and braise them up ?- must be cheaper than 108 pounds. 2c worth, says he going to check his pipes.........

Where exactly does that part go? Does it have 2 feeds from the engine to the thermostat? I don't remember seeing anything like it on my bike.

That pipe is toast! How could he not know? Was it sitting for a good while? That's crazy looking. I would think that the first pinhole would have shot coolant out all over the place.

Where exactly does that part go?
Bolts right to the front of the block and connects to the hose at the water pump.

I agree with Shadow , I'd be tempted to knock something together from 15/22mm copper tube . Hell of a lot less than £108 and you could be riding again in a couple of days . If you can't do it yourself get aplumber to do it for you

why would you even need to use metal tubing besides the ports that go into the motor and the water pump? the coolant doesnt get hot enough to burn though a good rubber hose.

Rubber hoses will get brittle with the heat. Copper tubing won't rust and shines up nicely too !
AND will improve cooling
BTW I would venture an idea that your mate used ordinary tap water - distilled water and anti-freeze shouldn't do that to the pipes..........???
A good plumber with a brazing torch should be able to make a set of those in an hour or less.
