RE: Nothing Sadder than a Fat Man Crying
Normal 0 Here in the states they are putting 10% ethanol in the gas. We finally had one day last week without rain and we all went for a ride. I was far away from home and fueled up. It ran real terrible. Normal 0 At around 5,500 RPM it would take off. I went back to my local pump and filled up and the problem went away.
Normal 0 I balanced the carbs on a friends'82 Yamaha and it purred. He came back three days later and the bike was hardly running. I told him it was the gas. He drained it and found a new pump. He called me and said that it was running smooth again.
Normal 0 The ethanol is high in octane and the lesser grade seems to work here. I have heard that the higher grades don't put the ethanol in. The ethanol also, being alcohol, burns hotter. Your bike will run hot on it.
Normal 0 My car shakes at idle but smooths out when it warms up. Normal 0 One of the problems with ethanol is that you will experience a lack of power.
Normal 0 In one write-up, a Flex-Fuel car that got 28 MPG on gas but only 25 on E-85 (with a big loss of power).
EDIT: What is with the damn "Normal 0"??? I didn't' type it and I can't remove it.What the "H"?

+1 to TBT. Ethanol gets less MPG (up to 20% less)and burns hotter and also can eat REAL rubber. so the older car's fuel systems play HE11 trying to deal with it. But hey, it costs about $.02/gallon less.
IMHO, If there's only a 5 to 10 cent difference in gas prices, it isn't worth me going a mile out of the way to save 30-40 cents.
