No electrical when key is on

I went to start my bike. It turned over once then everything went dark. No electrical at all. Checked all the fuses and the battery. All good. CXould this be the ignition switch?

It could be, but sounds more like a main fuse. The main fuse is a stand-alone fuse in the line from the positive side of the battery. Not sure if you were aware of that, and figured I should say something.

^^^^ +1 main fuse

+1 on the fuse, but ground cable of battey to frame -loose or corrosion maybe as well.

+3 on main fuse, its a 20 amp, might have blown if you had a short(I had melted wires at the main fuse clip, cause same problem) it is on the right side of the battery(while sitting on the bike), it is a red clip, bout 1"x1" box, open it up and change the fuse. See if those wires are melted, could be why it shorted. if not you have an open wire grounding out in the starting circut, if its blown. If not then bad battery or loose/cooroded connection.

+4 but it's 30A not 20.
Definitely check the lead from the negative wide of the battery to the frame. Even if it's tight it won't hurt to undo it, clean the mating faces and retighten.
Pull out all the other fuses and clean the tails. Squirt some contact cleaner in the fuse box. Put back only the fuses that you need to make her run.
If you can start her up add the fuses back one by one and if anything blows again you've got a big clue as to what circuit the fault is on.
G'luck!

update. When I hook up the charger to the battery with it still connected to the bike I get power back. When I push the start button I just hear a fast clicking. When the charger is taken off the battery I still get nothing. All fuses are good.

outlawfox13 Jul 31, 2011 01:54 PM

really, I thought it was a 20amp, hmm gonna have to search the manual again.(yup 30A thanks bro)

Edit: Well theres your problem batt is either dead/shot. the fast clicking is saying... hey I need more juice LOL.

kani73 Jul 31, 2011 02:27 PM

But shouldn't it still start with the charger on start? Or jumping it off?

outlawfox13 Jul 31, 2011 03:42 PM

These old bikes need a full charge, to start. If the battery is low it will be a PITA to get her going. put it on the charger for a while, then give her a shot. or just go get a new battery.
